MICHAEL JOHN WITHERS
Michael Withers is a retired engineer who has now found the time and opportunity to indulge his love of photography. Early in his career he won several photographic competitions with his focus on both land and seascapes.
His main subject material has become seascapes where the sky forms a major proportion of the image. The saturated blues and clouds of midday images and the variations of sunsets are now a large segment of his work. The sunset shots are mainly from the south coast of England and in particular the Isle of Wight.
Mike has become fascinated by the tonal ranges of sunsets from the pastel range to the vibrant strong colours and their reflections in the sea. Over the years his work has become heavily influenced by his artistic daughter Sharon Withers which has led to softer ‘impressions’ of the scenes.
The advent of digital photography with the ability of modern cameras to include the sun in the central part of the shot is also exploited in Michael’s work. Landscapes
are featured in the portfolio with a concentration of special effects such as autumn – mist and snow. Michael lives in the new South Downs national park.
